I support Mike Roberts' comments that people who are
*sincerely* intersted in creating an Atlarge
membership/organization should offer constructive
ideas on how to make this happen. If you don't think
the ALSC draft is a good plan for achieving this,
share some ideas to improve it. *Please* don't waste
everyone's time chanting "9 seats and votes for all
humans on earth paid for by ICANN." Whether you like
it or not, the only way real progress will be made on
Atlarge is if the ICANN Board passes a plan, and the
only way they'll pass a plan is if there's support
from some of the current ICANN groups. The conclusion
I draw from this forum is that about 70 people are
much more interested in hearing themselves talk and
proclaiming themselves "a consensus" for millions of
Internet users than they are about *actually making
Atlarge membership a reality*. (and to suggest that
the "straw poll" where 30 people "voted" for 9 seats
has some legitimacy is really pathetic -- but even
more pathetic is Jim Wagner/internetnews reference to
it). I was looking forward to being an Atlarge member
because I'm actually interested in some of the things
Icann is doing. If you feel the same way, start acting
like it -- stop whining and start offering some
constructive suggestions that have a chance of being
implemented!
